Climate change is caused by a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and is one of the greatest challenges the world has faced (Ashton 2008). It is an environmental issue, but also will cause a chain of effects that will impact all facets of life, from food security and water quality to energy availability and national security.

Although global change is certain, regions and ecosystems will feel the impacts of these changes differently.  In order to better understand these effects in the Washington, D.C. area, a study has been conducted to determine the likely effects of climate change on the area National Parks.
